Do expats pay church tax in Germany?

Church tax (8-9% of your income tax) only applies if you register as a member of a tax-collecting church (Catholic, Protestant, or Jewish). Most expats opt out during registration. If you're not religious, simply leave the church affiliation blank on your Anmeldung form.

Is the 30% ruling available in Germany?

Germany doesn't have a 30% ruling like the Netherlands. However, the EU Blue Card program offers streamlined work permits, and some employer relocation packages include tax equalization to offset the difference.
