AffordWhere is operated by Hitesh, based in Sweden. We provide a free cost of living calculator for people planning international relocations.

2. The Short Version

AffordWhere is designed to be as privacy-friendly as possible:

• No accounts or sign-ups. You never need to register.
• Your salary stays on your device. All calculations happen in your browser. We never send your salary, partner salary, or financial data to our servers.
• No analytics or tracking. We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any tracking tools.
• No advertising cookies. We do not serve ads.
• No data selling. We do not sell or share your data with anyone.

3. What Data We Process

Data that stays on your device (never sent to us)

When you use the calculator, you enter:

• Gross salary / partner salary
• Living arrangement preferences
• Lifestyle priorities
• Origin country

This data is processed entirely in your browser using client-side JavaScript. It is never transmitted to our servers. Some preferences may be stored in your browser's localStorage so the calculator remembers your inputs between visits. You can clear this at any time through your browser settings.

Data our servers receive

Like any website, when you visit AffordWhere our hosting provider (Vercel) automatically receives:

• Your IP address
• Browser type and version
• Device type and operating system
• Pages visited and timestamps
• Referring URL (if you clicked a link to reach us)

This is standard server log data that all websites receive. It is collected by our hosting provider (Vercel) for infrastructure and security purposes.

Legal basis (GDPR): Legitimate interest — maintaining the security and operation of the website (Article 6(1)(f)).

4. What We Do NOT Collect

• Salary or financial data (stays in your browser)
• Names, email addresses, or phone numbers (unless you email us directly)
• Location or GPS data
• Biometric data
• Data from third-party sources

5. Cookies & Tracking

We do not use any analytics, advertising, or tracking cookies.

The only data stored in your browser is:

• localStorage: Your calculator inputs and preferences (salary, city selections, lifestyle choices) so you don't have to re-enter them on each visit. This is not a cookie — it's local browser storage that is never sent to our servers.

You can clear localStorage at any time:

• Chrome: Settings → Privacy and Security → Clear Browsing Data → Cookies and Site Data
• Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data → Clear Data
• Safari: Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data

Because we use no tracking cookies, no cookie consent banner is required under GDPR.

6. Third-Party Services

That's it. We do not use any other third-party services that process user data.

If we add affiliate partnerships (e.g., money transfer services) in the future, we will update this policy and clearly disclose them before activation.

7. International Data Transfers

Our website is hosted on Vercel, which operates servers in multiple regions including the United States. When you visit AffordWhere, standard server log data (IP address, browser info) may be processed in the US.

This transfer is covered by Vercel's Data Processing Agreement and Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs).

Your salary and financial data is not affected — it never leaves your browser.

8. Data Retention

• localStorage (your device): Stored until you clear it manually. We have no access to it.
• Server logs (Vercel): Automatically deleted per Vercel's retention policy (typically 30 days).
• Emails: If you contact us at hello@affordwhere.com, we retain your email for as long as needed to respond, then delete it.

9. Your Rights

For all users:

• Clear your data: Delete localStorage through your browser settings at any time
• Access: Contact us to ask what data (if any) we hold about you
• Erasure: Contact us to request deletion of any data we may hold
• Object: Contact us to object to processing of server log data

Additional rights for EEA/UK residents (GDPR):

• Right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority
• Right to data portability (though we hold minimal data)
• Right to restriction of processing

Additional rights for California residents (CCPA/CPRA):

AffordWhere is a salary and cost of living calculator designed for adults planning career moves and relocations. It is not intended for users under 16 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your salary and financial data never travels over the internet — it stays in your browser. For the minimal server log data our hosting provider receives, all connections use HTTPS/TLS encryption.

12. Financial Disclaimer

AffordWhere provides estimates for informational purposes only. Tax calculations, rent prices, and cost of living figures are approximations based on publicly available data and may not reflect your actual situation. We are not financial advisors. Always verify figures with local tax authorities and do your own research before making relocation decisions.

13. Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top. Since we don't collect email addresses, we cannot notify you directly — please check this page periodically.
