Data sources and attribution

Every figure on AffordWhere comes from an official government statistical agency or an international body. We do not use crowdsourced data.

Data categories

Tax calculations

Income tax rates, brackets, and social contributions pulled from official government tax authorities. We update once a year, when each country publishes its new rates.

Rental prices

Median rents from national statistical offices and housing authorities. Where a country publishes an official API, we refresh the data automatically.

Cost of living

Consumer price indices and utility costs from Eurostat, OECD, and national statistical offices. Covers electricity, groceries, and transport.

Exchange rates

Daily exchange rates from the European Central Bank. Rates are used unmodified, per ECB data usage policy.

Geographic data

Neighborhood boundaries and city data from municipal open data portals and OpenStreetMap contributors.

Licenses

Every dataset we use is under an open license that permits commercial use:

  • Creative Commons (CC-BY-4.0) — Most EU statistical agencies
  • Open Government Licence (OGL) — UK public sector data
  • Public Domain / CC0 — US government data
  • Open Database License (ODbL) — OpenStreetMap

Attribution

This application contains public sector information licensed under various open data licenses. We've adapted and transformed that data for salary comparison.
