Net = Gross - Municipal Tax - State Tax - TyEL - Unemployment - Health - YLE TaxUtility costs
Electricity and gas prices from Eurostat Energy Statistics (H1 2025), mapped onto typical household consumption.
Groceries and daily expenses
Drawn from OECD Purchasing Power Parities and consumer price indices published by national statistical offices.
Transport
Monthly pass prices pulled directly from official municipal transport authority sites. Refreshed twice a year.
Neighborhood prices
Rent ranges come from official government housing statistics and rental indices. We publish a min and max because the real market doesn't hand you a single number.
First-hand vs. second-hand
In places where this matters (Sweden, Denmark), we split regulated first-hand contracts from market-rate second-hand rentals. The gap is often large, and worth knowing before you sign anything.
Update frequency
Rent data refreshes twice a year, in January and July. Often enough to track the market, slow enough that numbers don't jump around on you.
Note: No Numbeo, no crowdsourced averages. Rent figures come from official government housing statistics, which is slower but honest.
European Central Bank rates
Live FX from the ECB Statistical Data Warehouse via the Frankfurter API. Rates tick over once a day at 16:00 CET.
While we strive for accuracy, all calculations are estimates for informational purposes only. Tax laws and cost of living vary based on individual circumstances. Always consult official government sources and qualified professionals for financial decisions.
